Drive Hunger Away
A group of special men & women gathered together early morning on the 27th of August to make a difference in the lives of many people around the country in a matter of 3 days! This group of men & women, lets just all them the Driving Hunger Away Crew not only drove a total of 25000km but also helped in reaching out to communities in the Mooi River, Estcourt, Bloemfontein and the Eastern Cape region.
In preparation for this special trip, youngsters joined us from Pietermaritzburg to help in the packing of food parcels, as well as the packing of behicles going to Port Elizabeth. It was a wonderful sight to see 16 vehicles (14 Peugeot Partners, 1 Peugeot 208 and 1 Peugeot Boxer) in convoy. The parcels that were distributed around the country included non-perishables, maize, some hygienic packs and some stationary packs. The total number of parcels distributed along the way was 1200.
A very special thank you to every driver for the long hours & little sleep; Peugeot Pinetown who made available their storage space and getting these vehicles ready in time, Ethekwini Banner and Signs for doing the signage on the vehicles.
Top Gear Festival
Meals on Wheels South Africa and Peugeot Pinetown have been working together for the past two years and because of this strong partnership Meals on Wheels was showcased at the Top Gear Festival in Durban.
In June last 2013, the Chesterville Meals on Wheels branch was joined by 25 private Peugeot owners and teams from Top Gear, Peugeot Pinetown, East Coast Radio, Lee Folkard Photography and a host of other well known individuals to feed over 300 beneficiaries of the branch.
During the past Top Gear Festival 5500 sms's were received with each sms being a donation to Meals on Wheels of R15. The pledges received and the overall excitement by the public of what Meals on Wheels South Africa is doing in the community was unbelievable and no rand value can be placed on the exposure received.
To build stronger relationships between our corporate donors and Meals on Wheels South Africa an Annual Cook-off took place on the 21st November 2013. It took place in Johannesburg at Gillooly's Farm. The main corporate participants included Standard Bank Limited, ABSA, Rhodes Food Group and Peugeot South Africa, to name a few of the strategic partners present on the day!
The Teams prepared and delivered 7396 meals in one day!
Food was delivered to local Meals on Wheels beneficiaries and local branches were involved in the organising and co-ordinating and delivering of meals.
This type of event also provided for an opportunity for local branches and Area Offices to connect with prospective donors.
